Marilyn Viola Thompson, 90, of Lanesboro, Minn., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on August 14, 2021, at home.
Marilyn was born in Hartford, Conn., on September 3, 1930, to Arthur and Ellen Sholberg. She married the love of her life, Robert Allen Thompson, in a candlelight service at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartford, Conn., on November 24, 1951.
During her lifetime, Marilyn worked at the Navy Department in Washington D.C., where she met Robert, who was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. She was also a bookkeeper for the Lanesboro Sales Commission, and a hard working stay-at-home mother of three. Marilyn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 40.
Marilyn enjoyed traveling with Robert, reading, home-making, flower gardening, and going to lunch or coffee with friends. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and especially, her love of family.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Robert, three children: Steven (Rhonda Peterson-Wangen) Thompson, Jill (Bob) Peterson, and Jody (Joe) Peterson; eight grandchildren: Clay (Becky) Peterson, Emily (Nick) Charlebois, Amanda (Kerry) Jonsgaard, Brandon (Brit) Peterson, Benjamin (Sara) Peterson, Corday (Sierra) Peterson, and Claire Peterson; 16 great-grandchildren: Andrew Peterson, Trygve Peterson, Soli Peterson, Marit Peterson, Stella Charlebois, Gemma Charlebois, Jack Charlebois, Rex Charlebois, Gabe Jonsgaard, Braelyn Peterson, Gracyn Peterson, Blake R. Peterson, William Peterson, Blake S. Peterson, Ellie Peterson, and Thomas Peterson.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her sister Eleanor, brother Paul, parents Art and Ellen Sholberg; and grandsons Luke Peterson and Blake Peterson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 11 a.m., at the Union Prairie Church of rural Lanesboro, Minn. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
