Marguerite Peterson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Marguerite Lorraine (Meyer) Peterson, 97, of Wykoff, Minn., went home to her Lord and Savior on December 8, 2025, at Spring Valley Living Care Center in Spring Valley, Minn.

Margie was born January 24, 1928, at home in Forestville Township, the daughter of Ernest and Marguerite (Gee) Meyer Sr.

Margie experienced the profound loss of her mother at the age of eight. This early challenge forged a deep and lasting bond with her five siblings with whom she grew up, instilling in her the values of unconditional love that she carried throughout her life.

She was raised on the family farm near Forestville and was a proud 1947 graduate of Wykoff Public High School. In a display of her adventurous spirit, after graduation, she embarked on a journey to Santa Monica, Calif., with her cousin to work as a nursing assistant for a short period of time. Upon her return to Minnesota she met Harvey Peterson, and they were united in marriage on January 16, 1960, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minn. They made their home together in Wykoff, where they raised their two boys, John and Jim.

Throughout her career, she held various roles, including telephone operator, nursing assistant, and home health aide. However, she found her true calling as a school cook. She is most notably remembered for her compassionate commitment to ensuring every student had access to a nutritious meal, extending help and kindness.

Margie’s most important job, one she often said was her greatest joy, was being a mother to her children Jim and John. She also deeply cherished her nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Her love for her family was the center of her life; she embraced every moment with them, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and support.

Beyond her dedication to her family and her work at the local school, Margie lived a life rich in simple pleasures. She found enjoyment in the quiet patience of fishing and in the meticulous craft of piecing together fabrics to create beautiful, warm quilts. Margie was legendary for an exceptional talent: her cookies. Whether for family gatherings or just an afternoon snack for the kids, many will warmly remember the happiness those simple treats brought to their lives.

Margie will be fondly remembered for her lifelong dedication to her faith and church community. Her extensive volunteer work included serving as chairwoman of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) and as chairwoman of “Helping Hands” for 28 years. She also joyfully taught Sunday school for many years, leaving a lasting impact on her students.

She is survived by her three grandchildren: Timothy, Mary and Gabriel Peterson, all of Pepin, Wis.; daughter-in-law Deanna Peterson of Pepin, Wis.; her brother Ernest Meyer JR of Wykoff, Minn.; several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey, her two sons, John and James; her four brothers: Richard, John, Robert and Harold; and her parents Ernest and Marguerite.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday December 16, 2025, at St Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff with visitation being held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
