Lois Jean Ulrich

January 10, 2024 by Fillmore County Journal

Lois Ulrich obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Lois Jean Ulrich, age 95, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on January 5, 2024. Lois was born October 22, 1928, to Gilman and Clara (Brown) Eide. Lois grew up on the family farm north of Lanesboro, Minn. She attended country school and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1946. After high school, Lois moved to La Crosse, Wis., where she met Roger Ulrich. Lois and Rog were united in marriage on May 12, 1951. They were blessed with four children: David, Luther, Karen, and Paul. The family resided in La Crescent, Minn., for several years before moving to a home 1/8 mile from where Lois grew up and her parents still lived. Lois lovingly cared for her family and maintained a well-kept home. She began working for the United States Postal Service in 1970 and served several area post offices. Lois was appointed postmaster in Whalan, Minn., and served in this role for 10 years until her retirement in 1990. In 1997, she moved from her North Prairie home to a twin home in Rushford, Minn.

Lois had a deep Christian faith and knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at North Prairie Lutheran Church. As an active church member, she participated in many activities and held a variety of positions. She served as a WELCA officer, taught Sunday School, and made quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She completed the Bethel Bible series training and taught the Bible course to others. While residing in La Crescent, Lois and Rog were charter members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Lois enjoyed going to family gatherings, attending her grandchildrens’ sporting events, taking walks, baking, gardening, shopping, and playing Rook. She loved to travel and took numerous trips with both family and friends. Lois valued her family and friends and cherished the time she spent with them. She had a strong work ethic and was true to her word.

Lois is survived by her daughter Karen (Fred) Gatzlaff of Lewiston, Minn., son Paul (Lori) Ulrich of Cheney, Wash., and daughter-in-law Sheryl Ulrich of Lewiston, Minn.; 10 grandchildren: David (KariAnna) Ulrich, Stephanie Lang, Dan (Megan) Ulrich, Nathan Ulrich, Nicholas Ulrich, Emily (Ryan Geiger) Ulrich, Ryan (Julie) Gatzlaff, Sarah Gatzlaff, Lindsey (Kyle Dahlberg) Ulrich, and Matthew (Megan) Ulrich; four step-grandchildren: Vicky Pharr, Brad (Ellen) Hongerholt, Stacey (Harlan) Nelson, and Randy (Vicki) Hongerholt; 11 great-grandchildren: Riley (Samantha), Spencer, Connor, Abigail, Sam, Rhette, Nash, Josh, Charlie, Thaddaeus and Ty; one great-great grandchild, Pyper; sister Corrine Speltz, sisters-in-law June Bergland and Barb (Dan) Diebold; and brother-in-law Duane Palm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger, sons David (Della) and Luther, and siblings Glen (Marge) Eide and Sharon Palm.

With deep appreciation, the family would like to thank Claddagh Senior Living and all who lovingly cared for Lois.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 11 a.m. at North Prairie Church. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be held in the North Prairie Cemetery following the service.

Hoff Funeral Home – Rushford is assisting the family.
