The Spring Grove girls closed with a 9-to-3 run to defeat Southland by seven points, 54-47, at Adams on Feb. 9. The Lions completed the season sweep by hitting 7 of 9 late free throws while forcing three late Rebel turnovers. Siri Konkel sank all six of her late foul shots while scoring a team-high 15 points plus piloting the Lion attack with 9 assists. Kylie Hammel contributed 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Brinley Middendorf added 9 points and 4 rebounds while Addyson McHugh scored 8 points and Emerson Ingvalson 7, the latter two with 5 rebounds each. Breeley Galle led the Rebels with a game-high 17 points.

It was a back-and-forth battle with eight lead changes. The greatest margin was nine points with a 21-12 Lion lead. But the Rebels went back ahead 26-25 before an Ingvalson basket put Spring Grove back in front, 27-26, at halftime. Her 3-point bucket broke the last tie score (42-42) with 7:08 to play. The Lions led 49-44 before Southland was forced to send them to the free throw line.
While Southland left the gymnasium with a 5-18 (4-12 SEC) record, Spring Grove improved to 10-12 overall (8-7 SEC). The Lions have now taken four straight games versus the Rebels, including a 47-36 home decision back in early January. Spring Grove leads the competitive series, 11 wins to nine.
The Lion B-team earned a season split with a 44-39 win in the rematch. Southland again took the seventh grade game, this time 46-14.
