Visiting Spring Grove claimed its 20th volleyball victory of the season with a 20th consecutive victory against Houston, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-17) on Oct. 11. Completing the season sweep, the state-ranked No. 8 Lions improved to 20-3 (11-1 SEC) while the Homecoming setback left the Hurricanes at 7-10 (6-6 SEC).

The three most active Spring Grove hitters all performed well near the net. Addyson McHugh had 15 kills (only 2 errors) on 27 attacks. Joelle Halverson scored with 11 kills (no errors) on only 21 attacks for a team-best 52% efficiency. Kenadee Gerard put away another 11 kills (only 2 errors). The team attacked with a good 34% efficiency: 43 kills, 9 errors. The Lions’ 19 kills in set one was the most this season in a single set.
From the service line, the Grove girls served 92% with twice as many aces (12) as misfires (6). The ‘Canes served a strong 96% with only two errors, but also with only three aces. For the Lions, Maggie Lile served four aces. Kylie Reynolds served three times with two aces. Sydney Holland served 16 times without error with two aces. Seven different Lions contributed to the 12-ace total.
There was little suspense. Set one was tied at 5-all before the Lions separated with a six-point run. Grove moved out to a 10-4 start in set two. The final set was tied at 7-7 when the Lions pulled away with a 7-to-1 run.
The Spring Grove B-team (12-0) remained undefeated with a 2-0 decision (25-9, 25-17). The C-team (9-2) dominated the lone set, 25-7.
