Lion girls cannot maintain lead against FC/L

April 24, 2023 by Lee Epps

Spring Grove led twice but managed only one base hit in a 17-7 loss to Fillmore Central/Lanesboro on April 13 at Preston. Katelyn Kraus singled into right field to drive in two runs during the Lions’ big six-run second inning, which took advantage of two walks, two hit batters and two FC/L errors. Kraus would score on a wild pitch for a 7-4 Spring Grove lead. But FC/L plated nine runs in the bottom of the inning. The contest ended in the fifth inning with the 10-run rule.

For the second straight game, Maggie Lile was the first batter of the game and scored the game’s first run. She walked and came around on wild pitches. FC/L answered with four runs to lead after the first inning.

For the home team, Indy Qualy batted 2 for 2 while driving in five runs and scoring three. Jensyn Storhoff (2 for 4) had the big blow, a lead-off triple in the second inning. Klaudia Biel was credited with the pitching win, while Izabel Kaufmann was the pitcher of record for Spring Grove.

FC/L improved to 1-2 before finishing the week at 1-3.
