To the Editor,
Response to Congressman Brad Finstad’s statement regarding the government shutdown in the October 6 Fillmore County Journal.
We elect our officials to be a part of a government for the people, by the people. The government shutdown continues because Republicans are against 1) an extension of expiring tax credits which make health insurance cheaper for millions of Americans, 2) a reversal of the President’s cuts to Medicaid, and 3) the reversal of cuts to government healthcare programs used by millions of elderly, disabled and low-income people. These issues, that the Democrats are working to preserve, are what citizens rely on for their healthcare and freedom.
Yes, the for-profit healthcare system is broken and outdated. Currently the Republicans are depriving the citizens of this great county their basic healthcare needs by refusing to work with Democrats on these issues.

If I may:
Janelle, your letter must have been written for those that are ignorant of how government works. The Senate has a threshold of 60 votes, which I think is a great thing. This rule gives the minority party some leverage. The CR that the Republicans put forward is the same budget of bidens last year, FACT. The dems want to claw some of the money they lost for their “pet projects”.
The argument that the sky is falling with the healthcare system is laughable to say the least. This isn’t about barrycare, it’s about the biden era covid subsidies running out at the end of the year. How can any politician with a straight face argue FOR any “covid” expenditures??
This week’s issue has a letter from sweet little Amy telling us how worried she is about our farmers, laugh a minute. What I find funny is if you notice every time her party leader is pictured she’s lurking in the background. That a girl Amy.
