Memorial services for Kevin Schmidt will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018, at St Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minn., with Pastor Michael Harmen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, at the Hindt Funeral Home, 316 North Broadway, Spring Valley, Minn., and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Kevin J. Schmidt, age 54, of Spring Valley, Minn., died following a long, courageous battle with cancer on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minn.
Kevin Jon Schmidt was born November 30, 1964, in Farmington, Minn., to Danford and Arlene (Zumach) Schmidt. He attended and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1983. Kevin was united in marriage to Shawn Jeffries on October 28, 1989, in Waterloo, Iowa. Following their marriage Kevin and Shawn lived in Rochester and Kenyon before moving to the Spring Valley area. Kevin worked in the automotive parts industry for several years before being employed by SEMA in Spring Valley as a parts specialist and manager. Kevin enjoyed camping, kayaking, cutting wood, going to Duluth to watch the boats, and helping on his parents’ farm. Kevin was an avid Vikings and Wild fan. He also enjoyed handy work, working on cars, his church and especially enjoyed doting on his granddaughter, Noel.
He is survived by his wife Shawn of Spring Valley, two sons, Nikolaus Schmidt and Nathaniel (Jordynn) Schmidt, both of Spring Valley; one granddaughter, Noel; his parents, Dan and Arlene Schmidt of Kenyon, Minn.; two brothers, Danford Jr. (Mary Ann) Schmidt of Carthage, Ill., and Jeff (Cathy) Schmidt of Palm Beach Garden, Fla. He is also survived by nieces Holly Quinn, Mikayla Schmidt and Madison Schmidt.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents and one niece, Sarah Schmidt.
