Kendall Hammell, age 7, of Chatfield passed away at her home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Kendall Ann Hammell was born the second daughter of Lucas and Melissa (Wassink) Hammell in Rochester, Minn., on September 24, 2016.
Kendall would have been a second grader at Chatfield Elementary this fall. She was a brave little soul with a great sense of humor and a love for the outdoors. She enjoyed playing with babies, Barbies and many games with her family. She looked forward to riding her bike and any activity that took her outside. Kendall was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield.
Kendall was born with a hearing loss that didn’t define her a bit. She was feisty, loving and a complete joy to all who knew her. She began her battle with leukemia in 2021 and spent many days in the hospital in hopes of a cure and return to good health. In her last days, she was granted some good days at home, soaking up the love and attention from her loving family and friends. She yearned to be outside and in the sunshine. Her spunk and light will never leave those who loved her.
She will be always remembered and deeply missed by her parents Lucas and Melissa and her loving sisters Kenzie and Kennedy, all of Chatfield, her grandparents Bernard and June Hammell of Chatfield, and William and Diane Wassink of Rochester; and her great-grandmother Betty Hammell of Caledonia.
She is further survived by her uncle Brandon (Bridget) Hammell and cousin Alice of Chatfield, and Benjamin (Julie) Wassink of Round Rock, Tex., her aunt Kymberly (David) Majewski and cousins Brooklyn Wassink and Braelyn Majewski, all of Rochester.
Kendall was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandpa Walter Hammell, paternal great-grandparents Joseph and Carol Gavin, maternal great-grandparents Robert and Constance Wassink and Juel and Josephine Kvittem, paternal uncle Jared Hammell, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Kendall will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11 a.m., with Father Edward McGrath officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chatfield.
Visitation will be held at the Hoff Funeral Home of Chatfield from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, and again at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Kendall’s family would like to thank the community of Chatfield for their unending support during this time and a special thank you to Lee Novotny and Gina Jaquith for being the people they could turn to with any and every need. The outpouring of love has made this journey easier because of you all.
