Kelvin Lynn Niemeyer

April 25, 2022 by Fillmore County Journal

Kelvin Niemeyer obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Kelvin Lynn Niemeyer, age 71, of Ostrander, Minn., passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minn., after a courageous, three-year battle with glioblastoma.

Kelvin was born May 8, 1950, to Kenneth and Betty (Burns) Niemeyer in Lanesboro, Minn. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minn. Kelvin was the oldest of six children and graduated from Wykoff Public School in 1968. He began working at Tuohy Furniture in Chatfield right after graduation and that led to a life-long career with Tuohy’s where he remained for 51 years. He was married to Debbie Gehrking in 1972. They had two sons, Tanner and Trever, and later divorced.

In the fall of 1988, Kelvin married the love of his life, Linda (Storlie) Horsman at his home farm, outside of Wykoff, Minn. They lived in Spring Valley for 21 years and later moved to Ostrander, Minn.

Kelvin’s interests were anything related to the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He instilled a love of nature and being outdoors in his sons and grandchildren. Many family events were spent swapping stories and laughing over the mishaps. He especially enjoyed bird hunting with his two surviving dogs, Gust and Shadow. He was a founding member of the Deer Creek Long Spurs chapter of the NWTF in Spring Valley and served as president for many years, remaining an active member until his illness.

Kelvin was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Spring Valley, Minn. He was a man of deep faith and served in numerous ways. He served on several commissions, ushered, co-taught Sunday school with his wife Linda and sang in the church choir. He often shared his love for the Lord with his grandchildren and family members and encouraged them to have a relationship with God. Kelvin was honored to serve as a confirmation mentor for his grandson Blaine last year.

Kelvin will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 33 years, Linda; children Tanner of Montrose, Minn., and Trever (Sara) of Preston, Minn.; and stepchildren Brian (Jenny) Miland of Stewartville, Kim Miland of Spring Valley, Minn., Mitch (Jackie) Horsman of Wykoff, Minn., and Stacey Horsman of Brainerd, Minn.; grandchildren: Blaise (Danielle Anderson) Niemeyer, Hunter, Aspen and Savannah Niemeyer; Blaine and Brody Niemeyer, Nora and Max Miland, Madelline Strain, Jacelyn and Allyson Horsman, Grace Himle, and Braden Stork; great-granddaughter Madison Niemeyer, siblings Bob (Betty) Niemeyer of Wykoff, Minn., Cheryl (Dick) Dodds of Perham, Minn., Cindy (Neal) Hinners of Spring Valley, Minn., Barb (Chip) Hampel of Chatfield, Minn., and Bill (Maria) Niemeyer of Chatfield, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Betty Niemeyer, and great-granddaughter McKenna Niemeyer.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, with Pastor Jolene Knudson-Hanse and Pastor Betsy Dartt officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. May 3, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service. Condolences may be left at www.hindtfuneralhomes.com.
