Joyce A. Miland, 79, of Spring Valley, Minn., went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Mayo Clinic- St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minn.
Joyce Ann Miller was born July 13, 1943, at St. Marys Hospital. She was the oldest child of Murley and Mary (Naylor) Miller of Sleepy Eye, Minn. Joyce was employed at Rochester Methodist Hospital as a dietician’s aide for 46 years. She met the love of her life, Ron Miland, in the middle of June 1959. She was with her best friend, Cathy Hoefner. That was a good night for both of them, because Cathy met Jim Steele, and they were married a few months after graduation at Lourdes High School. Joyce and Ron were married November 11, 1961. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Not being blessed with any children was a very sad heartache. However, they were blessed with 19 nephews and five nieces. Joyce very often would take a few every summer to the Wisconsin Dells. She loved to bake, cook, play with the dogs, read, go to the casino overnight and spend quiet time with Ron. She loved dogs and was very sad when after 14 years and two months they had to put Katie down due to her very bad arthritis.
Joyce is survived by her husband Ron, five siblings: Jim Miller of New Ulm, Minn., Jeanne and Doug Hume of Eagle Lake, Minn., Janis and Dave Fromm of Lakeville, Minn., Joan Bowe of Eagle Lake, Minn., Jay and Kris Miller of Buffalo, Minn., sister-in-law Dr. Joyce Miller of Apple Valley, Minn., brother-in-law Jerry Miland, sister-in-law Patricia and husband Harley Bucknell.
She was preceded in death by her parents Murley and Mary Miller, brothers John Miller of Eagle Lake, Minn., and Jeff Miller of Sleepy Eye, Minn., who drowned at four years of age; and Rose and Orville Miland. Joyce always said, “I have the best in-laws ever.” She was also preceded in death by her nephew Ty Bucknell.
Funeral Mass for Joyce will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and will continue for one hour at the church prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Spring Valley Cemetery.
