John Heppner, 73, of Spring Valley, Minn., passed away on October 1, 2020, at home, with his wife Pat by his side, due to complications with cancer.
John was born in Virginia, Minn., to Peter H. & Katharina (Enns) Heppner on December 14, 1946. He went to school at Swift & Warroad. He married Patricia (Gaetz) Heppner on December 27, 1968, in Pembina, N. Dak. He attended Bible School at Bemidji, Minn., and the University of Minnesota of Crookston, Minn., where he also was a sheep herdsman. He managed a sheep ranch of 1,000 head in North Dakota. He worked at Marvin Windows of Warroad, Minn. He was involved in 4-H, Vo Ag, and MN State Sheep Assoc., where he won the junior sheep shearing contest and sheared at the national contest in Indiana. He was a farmer, metal fabricator, and wool buyer. He was very active member in church as church board member and also taught Sunday School.
John is survived by his wife Pat, son Tony (Joyce), daughter Tricia, two brothers, Dan (Bev) and Steven (Joan); five sisters: Kathy Atneoson, Beverly Enns, Marilyn Janzen, Pamela (Dennis) Haug, Sara Nell (Clark) Jelley; four grandchildren: Luke, Moriah (Aaron) Koehler, Noah and Joshua; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children.
John is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one sister-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17 at 10 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville, Minn., with Dr. John Grams of Grace Church officiating. The body has been donated to Mayo Clinic’s Anatomical Services Program.
