Jerry Fred Glynn, 81, went to his heavenly home on February 15, 2018, after a long illness. His loving family will miss him dearly, but are sure he’s with Jesus talking about guns, deer and antelope in the happy hunting ground in the sky.
Jerry was born to the late Harris and Selma Glynn in Minneapolis on July 30, 1936. He grew up in Spring Valley, Minn., where he was an outstanding running back and kicker for the Spring Valley Wolves champion football team. He graduated on June 6, 1955, and married his high school sweetheart, Eloise King, on May 5, 1956. They were blessed with three daughters: Pam, Kris and Jodie. They later divorced.
Jerry worked on the railroad as a cook, drove school bus, and held a position at IBM. He eventually obtained his Maintenance Engineer License and worked in the Building and Grounds and Engineering departments of the Spring Valley hospital, Riverview Hospital in Crookston, and United Hospital in St. Paul.
Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting mule deer and pronghorn antelope in Montana and whitetail deer in Minnesota. He was proud to be in the 100-Pounder Club in Alaska for catching a 100-plus pound halibut. He was a self-taught gunsmith and ran Jerry’s Gun Shop for many years.
Jerry is survived by his special friend, Alice Busch of Woodbury, Minn.; daughters Pamela (Ray) Waugh of Racine, Kristine Henke of Racine, and Jodie (Jim) Jacobson of Dexter; his grandchildren: Jacob (Kelly) Waugh, Rachel Lemmer, Rebecca (Joel) Evink, Hannah Henke, Samantha (Tony) Struzyk, Alyx (Kal) Koster, and Kelly Gunderson; and his great-grandchildren Caleb, Luke, Jack, Riley, Emma, Collin, Sophia and Chase; a sister-in-law, Delores Glynn and niece, Kelly, of Montgomery, Ill.. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Steve Glynn, and a son-in-law, Richard “Tom” Henke.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, February 19, from 4-6 p.m. at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley. A private family service will be held Tuesday.
