James Nosbisch obituary, Fillmore County Journal

James “Jim” Nosbisch, 86, a longtime Stewartville, Minnesota, resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minnesota.

James Carl Nosbisch was born on May 7, 1940, in Elma, Iowa, the son of Walter and Lucille (Huegel) Nosbisch. Jim grew up on the family farm in rural North Washington, Iowa, with his loving parents, five brothers, and two sisters. He attended parochial schools there and graduated from North Washington HS in 1958. He then attended vocational school, learning to be a Linotype operator. Jim married the love of his life, Catherine Zeimetz on June 24, 1961, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma, Iowa. After marrying Cathy, the couple first moved  to Durand, Illinois, and later to Hampshire, Illinois, where Jim worked at the local newspapers as a Linotype operator, a job he truly loved. Wanting to be closer to family, Jim and Cathy later moved with their six children to Stewartville where they made their home on a farm. It was there that they raised their family, made countless memories, and built a life together. The farm held a special place in Jim’s heart and remained a source of great pride throughout his life. Jim was employed in sales at Zeimetz Motors in Spring Valley, Minneosta, for a number of years and was employed at Hammell Equipment in Chatfield for 16 years until his retirement. Cathy was a homemaker and was employed in retail sales in different Rochester department stores.

Jim was a longtime active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Stewartville. He was outgoing by nature and genuinely loved people. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always ready for a good conversation. Jim had a warm smile, a kind heart, and an ability to connect with those around him. Whether talking with family, friends, neighbors, or someone he had just met, Jim enjoyed the simple pleasure of visiting with people.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine; their six children: Donna (Joe) Owens of Stewartville, Minnesota, Dan (Kim) of Stewartville, Minnesota, Diane of Rochester, Minnesota, Duane (Susan) of Fairfield, California, Doug (Kelly) of Chatfield, Minnesota, and Don (Jenny) of Laporte, Minnesota; his 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brothers Dave (Mary) and Glen (Jo) and his sister Jane, sisters-in-law Marilyn (Mike) and Paulette (Roger) and brother-in-law Doug (Lois) Beldon.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lucille, his brothers Roger, Michael, and Merlin “Butch”; and his sister Lois Beldon.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Mayo Clinic Senior Services, Chosen Valley Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Jim.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at St. Bernard Catholic Church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning.

Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. Condolences and memories of Jim are welcome at www.griffin-gray.com.
