Ila M. Bornfleth, 99, of Chatfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
Ila was born December 17, 1919, in Lanesboro, to Engebret and Sophia (Erickson) Skrukrud. She graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1937. After graduating, Ila attended Winona Business College in Winona, Minn. Ila then worked at the Farmers and Merchants State bank in Preston and as a secretary in the Lanesboro school system.
Ila married Irvin Bornfleth on July 22, 1943, in Lanesboro. They then moved to the Skrukrud family farm in the fall of 1943 and farmed there for 50 years. Irvin and Ila enjoyed nearly 50 years of married life together before Irvin passed away. Ila was an active member of the Pilot Mound Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member and officer of the Ladies Aid. She was also very active in her church circle. In her spare time, Ila loved to bake, visit with her neighbors and read books.
Ila is survived by her devoted son David, of Kasson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irvin (1993), and a brother, Orlando Skrukrud (1989).
The funeral service for Ila will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 22, at the Pilot Mound Lutheran Church rural Chatfield, with Pastor Sarah J. Walker-Brown officiating. The committal service will follow at the Pilot Mound Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
