Kingsland (1-1) and Houston (1-1) football went back and forth in a week three battle. The Knights scored the first 14 points. Kaden Rath hit Ethan Imm on a 24-yard pass play, and James Howard authored a 7-yard TD run to give Kingsland a 14-0 lead after one. Houston then scored back-to-back. Logan Rodriguez and Issac Heyer each had 6-yard second quarter TD runs. Neither conversion was good, leaving Kingsland up 14-12. A Rath to Devin Carr 23-yard TD pass and catch made it 22-12 Knights to end the first half. But the double-H guys scored 22 unanswered points after halftime. Caiden Olson had TD runs of 16 and 57 yards, the later putting Houston up 26-22 in the fourth. Heyer then scored on a 42-yard run. Aided by a couple conversions, Houston led 34-22. Kingsland got a late Rath to Howard 42-yard TD pass late. An on-side kick failed. Houston prevailed 34-28. The ‘Canes rushed for 378 yards. Heyer (23-179, 2 TDs rushing) had his second straight huge week. Olson (11-130, 2 TDs rushing) and Rodriguez (15-69, TD rushing) helped. Houston completed one pass (five yards). Kingsland’s Howard (21-127, TD rushing, 2-57, TD receiving) has scored in all three games, a feat a Knight hasn’t performed in many years. Rath (5-12, 113 yards, 3 TDs) tossed a trio of scores, ditto the “many years.” Cody Hungerholt’s ‘Canes improved to 2-1. Matt Kolling’s Knights fell to 1-2.
