Hurricane Girls Post Two Wins at TCU Tourney

January 10, 2022 by Paul Trende

Dale Moga’s Houston girls, the defending section champs, posted a pair of wins at the Tri-City United holiday tournament to end 2021 well.  Versus LeSueur-Henderson, junior forward Sydney Torgerson had a huge night.  She put up a season-high (27 pts, 11-18 FGs, 5-5 FTs, 10 rebs, 3 asts, 4 stls) in leading team double-H to a 72-38 win.  Nicole Beckman (12 pts, 4-9 threes) and Olivia Beckman (11 pts, 3-7 threes) combined to hit seven threes.  Lilly Carr (10 pts, 4-5 FTs, 6 rebs, 7 asts) also hit double figures.  Priya Kingsley (3 pts, 4 rebs, 9 asts) had a good passing night.  Houston was 11 of 14 (79%) from the FT line and 27 of 60 (45%) from the field.  They assisted 23 field goals.  A night later, things were tougher versus Lester Prairie.  The Bulldogs led 32-31 at halftime, but Houston won the second half 27-19 to post a 58-51 win.  Torgerson again led the way (19 pts, 9-14 FTs, 13 rebs, 5 stls) with a double-double.  She scored her 1,000th point, joining the list of Houston girls who’ve done so in recent memory (Abbey Loken, Kelly Jerviss, Alyssa Rostad, Emma Geiwitz).  Kingsley (14 pts, 4 asts, 6 stls) and Carr (10 pts, 6-6 FTs) also hit double figures.  N-Beckman (9 pts, 3-7 threes) again hit multiple trifectas.  The ‘Canes were plus-nine at the free throw line; 18 of 28 to L-Prairie’s 9 of 18.  Houston (3-2, 6-3) has won three straight.
