Boys basketball playoffs started. In Class AA, Carson Johnson scored 20 as 4-seed R-P topped 13-seed Pine Island 84-58. The Trojans (24-3) move on to face 5-seed Triton (24-4). Grant King scored 23 as 6-seed Caledonia topped 11-seed St. Charles 71-42. The Warriors (16-10) move to face 3-seed Cannon Falls (21-6). Nine-seed Chatfield fell to 8-seed Lake City, but junior Ross Stoehr scored his 1,000th career point. The Gophers finish at 17-10. In 1A, L-O topped Houston 65-40 in one play-in game. Collin Stuart scored 20, but Kingsland lost to Rochester Math and Science 72-71 in another. L-O then fell to 1-seed Southland 91-40. Darian Hershberger scored 20 as 5-seed M-C topped 12-seed Schaeffer 70-57. Bridon Bahl scored 26 and Clayton Schoepski 20, but 13-seed FC fell to 4-seed Hayfield 80-70. M-C (19-8) moves on to face 4-seed Hayfield (18-9). Nick Taylor scored 27 points including topping 1,000 for his career as 2-seed Lanesboro topped 15-seed Rochester M & S Academy 92-49. The Burros (21-6) will face 10-seed W-K (9-18). Both M-C and Lanesboro got back to Rochester for a 1A quarterfinal for the first time since 2013-2014, which was also M-C’s last winning season. Logan Grafe scored 20 as 6-seed GM beat 11-seed L/P 60-49. The Larks (18-9) move on to face 3-seed L-A (19-8). Nine-seed SG fell to 8-seed Faribault B.A. 61-49. In girls basketball Class AA playoffs, 9-seed R-P fell to 1-seed #3 in AA Red Wing 65-30. The Trojans finish at 18-9. In Class A, despite trailing 27-7, 3-seed Southland topped 6-seed FC 73-65. Hannah Vaalemoen had 21 in defeat. Jensyn Storhoff scored 29 but 7-seed Lanesboro fell to 2-seed Hayfield/SA 74-59. The Burros season ends at 17-11. Top-seed NRHEG took care of 8-seed Houston 76-39. Five-seed Spring Grove/Mabel-Canton lost to L-A 79-60. The Lions finish at 16-9.
