Grand Meadow’s boys (10-6 in the SEC, 14-9 overall) went 3-1 on the week, beating L-O 60-53, M-C 62-58, and Kingsland 69-30 while losing to Southland 90-48, all at home. Caledonia’s boys beat La Crescent/Hokah 72-60 and FC 92-61 with Grant King scoring 27 and 36 points. The Warriors (10-3, 14-9) and Cotter/HL (9-3, 17-7) trail R-P (10-2, 20-3) atop the TRC-East. Nick Taylor scored 20 as Lanesboro topped Houston 76-31 and 28 more in a 58-51 loss to Southland, which was a battle of SEC East and West division champions. Reid Hungerholt scored 28, 36, and 34 points, but L-O lost to Faribault B.A. 67-59, Houston 69-64, and W-K 71-54. Rylan Ristau scored 23 but FC fell to M-C 66-61, as Cougar Darian Hershberger hit two free throws win 0:10.1 left to cement the win. SG/M-C’s girls lost a 65-63 double-overtime contest to Crestwood, and, in a game to share the SEC title, fell 57-50 at Southland. Kinley Soiney scored 20 points in defeat. The Lions (9-3, 15-8) are 1A’s 5-seed, host 12-seed GM (3-22). Other 1A Round of 16 matchups are 11-seed Kingsland (3-9, 5-19) playing at 6-seed FC (6-8, 13-12) and 14-seed L-O (1-11, 2-23) playing at 3-seed Southland (21-4). Grace Schroeder hit the game-winning three in the final five-seconds, as Chatfield topped PEM 55-54. Schroeder scored 27 in the game. A game later she scored 20 in a 57-45 defeat to Pine Island. The Gophers (5-10 in the TRC, 8-18 overall) are 1AA’s 14-seed, play at 3-seed Goodhue (18-8). In Section first round team wrestling, GMLOS beat Mankato-Loyola/St. Clair 46-30, LARP beat D-E 43-23, and Caledonia/Houston beat St. Charles beat 31-29 on the back on Rae’Shaun Smith’s 2-0 decision win at 285. Each team then lost in their section semis. LARP finished at 19-4, Cal/Hou 12-17, and GMLOS 10-16.
