Jonah Bunke ran for 252 yards and 4 TDs as 5-seed Rushford-Peterson football avenged a week eight 14-12 loss to Wabasha-Kellogg by shellacking the 4-seed Falcons 42-6 in the 1A quarters. R-P then fell at #4 in Class A and top-seed Goodhue 32-14. The Trojans finish the year 4-6. Two-seed Spring Grove topped Grand Meadow 52-6, as Bryce Berns threw five touchdowns passes. SG then fell to Kingsland (See “Football: Knights Blank M-C, Down #6 SG on Field Goal to Make Section Final” for more). Five-seed Houston got 175 yards of total offense out of Maddox Rodriguez but fell 27-14 in the Section 1 9-Man quarters to 4-seed Southland. The Hurricanes finish at 4-5. Winning play-in playoff volleyball matches were 16-seed Houston, which beat Lyle/Pacelli 3-1, and 13-seed LeRoy-Ostrander, which swept Glenville-Emmons 3-0. Benita Nolt had 18 kills and 7 aces in the match for the Cards. Sahara Morken had 32 assists as #2 in Class A and top-seeded Mabel-Canton then swept the ‘Canes in the Round of 16. Houston finishes at 10-16. M-C improved to 32-2. Thirteen-seed L-O fell at 5-seed Kenyon-Wanamingo. The Cardinals finish at 12-16. Joining M-C in posting 1A Round of 16 wins were 2-seed Spring Grove, which swept 15-seed Blooming Prairie, and 6-seed Fillmore Central, which swept 11-seed Wabasha-Kellogg. Kendall VanMinsel had 34 assists to lead the Lions. SG improved to 22-7, the Falcons to 14-15. Losing a tough Round of 16 matchup was 10-seed Rushford-Peterson, which fell in five sets at 7-seed Goodhue. Torryn Schneider had 27 digs including the 1,000th of her career. Addison Drinkall had 37 digs, Lindsey Hoiness 17 kills. R-P finishes a 10-14. In Class AA, top-seed and #3 Chatfield got 32 assists from Harper Goldsmith in sweeping St. Charles. The Gophers improved to 25-4. Third-seeded and #5 Caledonia got 34 assists from Avery Augedahl and 17 kills from Liv Myhre in sweeping 14-seed PEM. The Warriors improved to 20-9.
