Michael Johnson, a 2004 graduate of Rushford-Peterson High School, is an assistant football coach at Mankato West High School. West defeated Mahtomedi 24-10 in the State Class 5A Football Championship game. They finished the season a perfect 13-0. West won the 5A Title in 2014 also, Johnson’s first year there. After graduating from R-P, Johnson played college football at Gustavus Adolphus for four years. After college he taught and coached at Waconia for six years before moving to West. Elijah Solum scored 25 points as Spring Grove (3-0, 5-2) rebounded from a loss to R-P, beating D-E 44-33.  Taylor Glynn scored 23 points as GM’s boys beat Medford 65-47.  Peyton Berg had 20 points including making 10 free throws, but Chatfield’s girls (3-2, 8-4) lost to Onalaska-Luther.  Caledonia’s girls split games in Winona, losing 47-46 to Maple River, beating Waseca 47-38.  Four of the Warriors five losses are by five or less points.
