Fillmore County Journal - Fillmore County Sports

All-state volleyball and football has been released.  On the volleyball court, Mabel-Canton senior Kenidi McCabe earned 1st Team All-State for a third straight season.  Fillmore Central senior libero Kjerstiana (K.J.) Corson earned All-State Honorable Mention.  On the football field, Lanesboro senior Bodie Mayer (OG) and Grand Meadow senior Cameron Sneed (OG) each made 9-Man 1st Team All-State on offense.  Mabel-Canton’s Gavin Johnson (DL) and GM’s Ben Kraft (DL) made 1st Team All-State 9-Man defensively.   Lark Daniel Smith (RB/LB) made All-State Honorable Mention 9-Man.  Additionally, Lanesboro volleyball coach Julie Schreiber was voted Coach of the Year for sub-section 1A East.  Senior soccer athlete Eliza Welscher of the Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston was named to the 2020 All-Three Rivers Conference Team.  Sophomore teammate Ayshia Gay received Honorable Mention.  Welscher “always played where we needed her,” said Warrior coach Chris Jandt. “Eliza is the ultimate team player. Throughout the year, she has played numerous positions outside of her normal midfield.  She played center defense, wing and forward. She is an outstanding player and a greater person.” Gay, although only a sophomore, started for the second year. “She started the year playing outside defense and played herself in a midfield position,” said Jandt. “Her growth as a player allowed the team to make changes when needed and did not miss a beat. Ayshia plays wherever the team needs her and shows success even in uncomfortable situations.”
