According to Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge, a 911 call was received by Fillmore County dispatch at 6:29 a.m., Friday, March 19, reporting an explosion and fire at a residence in Bloomfield Township in southwest Fillmore County. Spring Valley and Ostrander Fire Departments were paged, along with the Spring Valley Ambulance and Fillmore County Deputies. Upon arrival, the home was engulfed in flames and a total loss. No one appeared to be in the home at the time of the incident, deputies located a subject on the property some distance from the home with what are believed to be self-inflicted injuries. Immediate life-saving efforts were made by deputies and fire department personnel, the subject was transported to St. Marys Hospital by Mayo 1. The Minnesota State Fire Marshall responded to the scene to assist with the fire investigation. No other persons are believed to be involved in the incident, and there is no danger to the public.
