Grove girls coast past Schaeffer Academy

September 16, 2022 by Lee Epps

SG 3, Schaeffer Academy 0

25-19, 25-10, 25-15

Spring Grove improved to 3-0 while rolling to a third straight lop-sided volleyball win versus an overmatched conference rival. The visiting Lions poured in 18 service aces to only one for the host Schaeffer Academy Lions who had seven service errors. Schaeffer (0-4, 0-4 SEC) was the first Spring Grove foe to record more kills (16) than hitting errors (13), but Spring Grove was dominant at the net as well as the service line with 34 kills and 11 errors (25% efficiency).

Addyson McHugh, shown in a previous match, had 10 kills, served three aces and defended with seven digs against Schaeffer Academy.

Addyson McHugh and Kenadee Gerard each had 10 kills. Sydney Holland served 5 aces and Maggie Lile 4 with 3 each from McHugh and Joelle Halverson. A dozen Grove girls were credited with digs, led by Lile with 10 and McHugh with 7.

Set one was tied 2-2 before Grove separated with six straight points. Sprig Grove scored the first 11 points in the second set. The only Schaeffer lead came with the first point of the third set before the visitors took control with a 9-to-1 run.

The Spring Grove B-team (3-0) easily swept both sets, 25-4 and 25-7. Schaeffer Academy has no C-team (freshman).
