A season ago, Chatfield’s boys went 4 and 22. Jeff DeBuhr’s group will end this season nearly tripling their win total. The final week, Chatfield felled W-K 62-50, sweeping that season series (ending a four-game losing streak). Josef Fahrenholtz (14 pts, 7 rebs), Reid Johnson (12 pts), David Castleberg (12 pts, 5-7 FGs), and Chance Backer (11 pts, 5-7 FGs, 5 rebs) led the way. The Gophers assisted 21 of 26 field goals. A night later, Chatfield trekked to St. Charles (16-6) and got a marquee win, their best win in a while, souring the Saints 85-79. It was the Gophers first win over SC since 2013-2014 (nine straight defeats). Fahrenholtz (26 pts, 10-15 FGs, 11 rebs, 4 asts), Landon Bance (career-high 26 pts, 8-12 threes, 9-14 FGS), and Johnson (18 pts, 5 asts) had big nights. The Gophers shot 53% FGs (32-60), 56% threes (9-16) thanks to Bance, and 71% FTs (12-17). Chatfield persevered through 21 turnovers. The Gophers are (6-9, 11-13) is 1AA’s 13-seed and will play at 4-seed La Crescent (19-7)).
