This year’s golf schedule includes a lot of tournaments. Rushford-Peterson held one at Ferndale Course. The boys event featured the Trojans plus “Journal-covered” teams Chatfield, Lanesboro, Caledonia and Houston as well as Lewiston-Altura and Dover-Eyota. Paul Wagner’s Gophers (345) continued their nice season by claiming the title over nearest foes R-P (365) and Lanesboro (372). Caledonia (404) took fifth and Houston (440) seventh (of seven complete teams). Individually, L-A’s Anders Shurson and Chatfield’s Colton Johnson (84’s), both seniors, tied atop the leaderboard. The Gophers also took third with Devin Reinhardt (85), fourth with Carson Harstad (86), tied for seventh with Brayden Fretland (90), and tied for ninth with Gage Bartels (91). Chatfield thus had five in the top nine. Lanesboro’s Jack Brogle (87) took fifth, joining Harstad as a pair of freshmen in the top five. R-P had three in the top 10. Eighth grader Sam LaFleur (89) paced their effort, taking sixth, while Jaxson Meldahl and Carter Kopperud (91’s) tied for ninth. Houston’s Ethan Knutson (90) tied with Fretland for seventh place to round out the top 10. Lanesboro’s Kaden Stettler (92, 12th place), Caledonia’s top golfer Carson Klug (94, 13th place-tie), R-P’s Kellen Drinkall (94, 13th place-tie), and Burro Dayton Haugen (95, 15th place) rounded out the top 15. Forty-one total golfers competed at the daylong 18-hole meet. On the girls’ side, Rochester-Mayo (388) topped nearest foes Caledonia (401) and Chatfield (406). Lanesboro (418) took fourth and Houston (548) seventh (of seven complete). L-A also competed and Mayo had two teams while R-P did not field a complete team. Warrior freshman Jazzlyn Hauser (88) out-shot nearest foe Avery Meyer (92) of Mayo for the individual title. Hauser posted a six-par 41 on her first nine holes, then a 47. Chatfield’s Taylor Ask tied for third with Mayo 8th grader Dylan Raukar (94’s). Mya Henry (99) and Grace Copeman (101) took seventh and tied for ninth place to give the Gophers three in the top 10. Sisters Ellie McCabe (95) and Addison McCabe (100) took fifth and eighth places while Jentrey Schreiber (102) tied for 11th place to lead Lanesboro. Hayden Harms (101) and Maggie Herman (102) tied for ninth and tied for 11th to give Caledonia three in the top 11. The Warriors three top golfers are all freshman. Thirty-six total girls competed.
