Kingsland (9-seed, 15-8) trailed Houston (8-seed, 16-10) by 13 at intermission and by sixteen early in the second half but rallied for a comeback victory in a 1A Round of 16 play-off contest. The Hurricanes had a 14-5 first half spurt to help build a 36-23 halftime lead. They led 41-25 early in the second stanza. But the ‘Canes offense got stagnant, with just one field goal over 18 possessions (1-9 shooting, nine turnovers). Defense and Ryley Guy’s shooting brought the Knights back. The senior hit a three threes mid-half. All told, Kingsland went on a 22-2 run to lead 47-43. The teams then fought to the finish. Emily Botcher hit a big three late to put Houston up 54-52 (1:29). Guy replied with a long two to tie it 54-54 (1:12). Two Avery Kingsley free throws put Houston back ahead 56-54 (0:47). Chantle Reiland then banked in a three (0:33) to put Kingsland ahead for good at 57-56. Houston subsequently had a three rim-out (0:12). Kingsland prevailed 58-56! Guy (22 pts, 4-14 threes, 7 rebs) had a big game. She was 1 for 8 from deep before hitting three of four in the Knights big run. Morgan Phillips (14 pts, 3-6 threes, 4 stls) and Reiland (10 pts, 4 asts) helped. Aubry Boldt (18 pts, 3-8 threes), Kingsley (14 pts, 6-7 FTs, 7 asts), and Botcher (13 pts, 5-7 FGs, 8 rebs) led the ‘Canes. Boldt got all hers in the first half. Kingsland attempted 41 threes, making eight (20%). The teams split the season series. Kingsland (9-seed, 16-8) moves on to face #1 in Class A Goodhue (1-seed, 22-5). Houston, without one key senior, finishes a good year at 16-11
