After winning four straight, then losing four straight, Chatfield’s girls picked up back-to-back victories the second week of January to get back to victoriousness. Hosting Pine Island (5-5), Chatfield triggered 26 turnovers and limited the Panthers to just 34 points (13 of 64 shooting > 23%) in a 54-34 win. The Gophers built a 24-10 halftime lead. They were plus-nine at the free throw line, 14 of 19 (74%) to 5 of 10 (50%). Five Gophers scored at least seven points; Grace Schroeder (12 pts), Lexi Kivimagi (10 pts, 5 rebs, 3 stls), Evy Goldsmith (10 pts, 10 rebs, 4 asts, 5 stls), Mya Henry (8 pts) and Kendall Knuston (7 pts). A few nights later, Kyle Tollefson’s group downed visiting La Crescent/Hokah 70-52. The Gophers shot 45% from the field (23 of 51). They were plus-nine at the free throw line; 18 of 28 (64%) to LCH’s 9 of 16 (56%). Senior Evy Goldsmith (23 pts, 7-10 FGs, 8-8 FTs, 12 rebs) led the way with a very offensively efficient double-double. G-Schroeder (12 pts), Kylin Schroeder (8 pts), Taylor Ask (7 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts), and Kivimagi (7 pts, 7 rebs) again gave Chatfield five players with at least seven points. The Gophers (4-3, 9-6) sit in third place in the TRC West behind D-E (8-1, 14-2) and PEM (6-2, 8-7).
