Chatfield (10-seed, 14-12) trailed Zumbrota-Mazeppa (7-seed, 10-16) in a 1AA Round of 16 game by 10 with 1:45 to go. Kyle Tollefson’s Gophers then scored the final 10 points, getting big threes by Lexi Kivimagi and Taylor Ask, the latter tying the game 65-65 (0:28). Z-M missed two one-and-one’s late to aid the comeback. They also missed a game-winning last shot. The game went to overtime. Ask hit two extra session threes, the latter to make it 71-67. Z-M then scored five straight to go ahead 72-71. Chatfield re-took the lead 73-72 on an Evy Goldsmith score (following a great Mya Henry save). Z-M then failed to score on its last three trips, including down 74-72 in the final 0:16. The Gophers prevailed 75-72! Seniors Goldsmith (31 pts, 10-18 FGs, 10-16 FTs, 13 rebs) and Ask (20 pts, 6-14 threes) had big games. Kivimagi (11 pts, 3-6 threes, 6 rebs, 9 asts) helped. Kendall Knutson chipped in 8 points. Chatfield led most of the first half, but trailed 36-29 at halftime. They never led in the second half. Z-M beat Chatfield 68-53 on January 29. The Gophers (15-12) move on to face 2-seed Lourdes (18-9).
