Girls Basketball: #10 Warriors Run Win Streak to Five

Caledonia’s girls continued their dominance of TRC competition with wins over Dover-Eyota at home and Lewiston-Altura on the road. The 9-4 Eagles usually put up a fight, but the teams’ league contest saw the Warriors dominate the second half 43-12. Said effort turned a 31-23 halftime lead into a 74-35 win. The Eagles were held to a season-low point total. Warrior senior guards Nicole Banse (5 of 11 threes, 5 assists, 5 stls) and Aubrie Klug (3-7 threes, 6-6 FTs, 4 stls) combined for eight threes and each tallied 23 points. Kensey King (8 pts, 10 rebs) and Ashlyn Reinhart (6 pts, 6 rebs, 7 asts) helped. Caledonia hit 10 threes to D-E’s four. At the 10-4 Cardinals, Banse (31 pts, 11-19 FGs, 4-5 threes, 5-5 FTs, 7 asts, 5 rebs) and Klug (30 pts, 7-16 threes, 6 rebs, 4 asts) pulled the rare feat of each scoring 30 in the same game and combining for 11 made threes. The Warriors scored a season-high in a 91-51 win. King (10 pts, 9 rebs), Reinhart (6 pts, 4 rebs, 7 asts), Jessica Stendel (4 pts, 10 rebs), and Bayla King (6 pts) also played their parts. The 10th-ranked Warriors won their fifth in a row. They (9-0, 12-3) lead the TRC-East over Cotter/HL (7-2, 10-7). The average margin of victory in league has been nearly 34 points per game (closest league game, 19 points). Klug is averaging a team-best 25-plus points per game with five over 30.

Girls Basketball: Burro Girls Tough  Out Three Wins

Lanesboro’s girls toughed out three wins on the week, two low-scoring affairs, and non-conference contest that went to the wire. Hosting Kingsland, the teams combined for just 75 points. Cora Mayer (10 pts, 9 rebs, 6 stls) and Emma Ruen (8 pts, 7 rebs, 4 asts) aided the Burro effort, which played just six girls. Kingsland’s Macy Runck scored a team-high 10 points. Versus Chatfield in non-conference action, the game had 11 lead changes. Chatfield’s Sedona Thompson hit a scooping lay-up with 25-seconds left to tie it 58-58.
