Girls Basketball (1/10 – 1/15)

Chatfield girls basketball coach Brian Baum, in a Gopher win over Rushford-Peterson, accumulated his 400th career win. Last baseball season, Baum collected his 300th managerial win. Baum is a staple in the Gopher coaching ranks, having spent 32 years heading coaching girl’s b-ball team and 21 heading baseball team’s (mostly for Chatfield).

Three Rivers Conference

Chatfield 76, Rushford-Peterson 57 (C: P. Berg 24 pts (3-6 threes, 5-5 FTs), 7 rebs, 5 stls; Kara Goetzinger 19 pts (7-11 FGs), 8 rebs, 4 stls; Anna Kivimagi 6 pts, 5 rebs, 6 asts; Shea Jech 7 pts.  R-P: Ellie Ekern 18 pts (3-5 threes); Kaylee Ruberg 15 pts (7-12 FTs), 10 rebs; E. Jacobson 10 pts (4-5 FGs); Hannah Ronnenberg 8 pts, 4 asts.  R-P started 9-0, Chatfield replied 15-2)

Plainview-Elgin-Millville 63, Fillmore Central 50 (FC: Kammry Broadwater 16 pts, 13 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls; Madison Simon 11 pts; Courtney Hershberger 7 pts, 7 rebs. PEM: Abigail O’Reilly 27 pts.  Game was tied 25-25 at half.  Bulldogs out-scored FC 38-25 in second stanza.  FC > 0-7, 3-10)

Lanesboro junior Jessie Schreiber denies Houston’s Lilly Carr in the teams’ key SEC-East match-up. Schreiber and the Burros did work to deny the Hurricanes another title run in the division. The Burros prevailed 54-47, sweeping the season series. Lanesboro (4-1, 10-4) has grabbed control of the East division over the ‘Canes (5-3, 9-5).

Lewiston-Altura 33, Rushford-Peterson 48 (R-P: K.Ruberg 14 pts, 8 rebs, 4 stls; Tayler Helgemoe 14 pts (4-7 threes, 5-8 FGs), 8 rebs.  Game played at Target Center.  Trojans avenge 49-37 loss 12 days earlier.)

Southeast Conference

Houston 55, Southland 31 (H: S. Torgerson 23 pts, 9 rebs, 5 stls; P. Kingsley 8 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts)

Lanesboro 67, Lyle/Pacelli 49 (L: K. Ruen 24 pts, 14 rebs; J. Schrieber 14 pts (6-9 FTs), 16 rebs; J. Storhoff 11 pts, 5 rebs, 7 ast; B. Ruen 9 pts, 8 rebs.  Burros had 59 rebounds including 22 offensive.  They won second half 40-23)

Schaeffer Academy 40, LeRoy-Ostrander 65 (L-O: Gracie O’Byrne 16 pts (8-14 FGs), 4 asts, 9 stls; Jordan Runde 16 pts (7-11 FGs), 8 stls; Sam Volkart 13 pts (3-6 threes); Jenna Olson 12 pts (4-8 threes), 5 rebs; Benita Nolt 6 pts, 16 rebs.  Cardinals shot 28 of 56 (50%) including 7 of 22 threes (32%).  L-O > 2-4, 3-7)

Non-Conference

Southland 40, Fillmore Central 68 (FC: A. Bothun 21 pts, 12 rebs, 4 stls; Alyssa Britton 11 pts; K. Broadwater 10 pts, 9 rebs, 9 stls; Lauren Mensink 6 pts, 6 rebs.  Falcons put up a season-high point total.  They did so despite going 1 of 14 (7%) from distance.  Falcons have won last three against 1A teams – Kingsland, Lanesboro, Southland – after an 0-3 start)

Rushford-Peterson’s Emarie Jacobson and Kingsland’s Alexys Harwood fight for a rebound amidst the teams’ cross-county match-up. Kingsland got four threes from Audrey Webster in the second half to pull away for a 62-42 win.

Kingsland 62, Rushford-Peterson 42 (K: Audrey Webster 19 pts (5-8 threes, 7-10 FGs), 4 stls; A. Reiland 14 pts, 12 rebs, 5 asts, 6 stls; Emily Miner 9 pts, 7 rebs; Cassidy Redman 7 pts, 5 rebs.  R-P: K. Ruberg 19 pts (5-5 FTs); E. Jacobson 7 pts, 5 rebs, 4 stls; T. Helgemoe 7 pts, 5 rebs.  Knights led 34-30 a few minutes into the second half, but Webster then hit four threes, helping Kingsland to a 19-3 run and a 53-33 lead.  Knights (5-0, 9-7) lead SEC-West.  R-P > 2-4, 7-7)

Postville 42, Mabel-Canton 46 in OT (M-C: Hope Erickson 14 pts (6-12 FTs), 15 rebs; Kinley Soiney 11 pts, 13 rebs, 5 stls; Camryn Cox 8 pts; Gwen Tollefsrud 7 pts.  Postville led 18-15 at halftime, by as many as 14 in the second.  Defense, a couple -G-Tollefsrud threes, and Erickson scoring five straight late points gave M-C a 40-38 lead.  Postville hit two free throws to tie it 40-40 (0:20).  Each team blocked a shot after that.  M-C scored six points, all at the line, in OT, for the win.  Cougars > 2-4, 4-9) 

Houston 56, Glenwood City 23 (H: S. Torgerson 15 pts, 8 rebs, 6 stls; O. Beckman 13 pts (3-7 threes); Lilly Carr 8 pts, 9 rebs.  Hurricanes > 5-3, 9-5)
