Gerald Dean Mullenix was born on November 17, 1939, in New Rome, Wis., to Roy and May Mullenix. He was born into a family of two brothers and four sisters. He was baptized at the Baptist Church in Spring Valley. Deano came here at the age of 13 and went to country school for one year. He returned to New Rome, Wis., and later returned to Spring Valley at the age of 16. He resided with Allie and Bessy Bly until the age of 40, when he purchased his own home. He lived there until retiring to Hillside in 2008.
Deano enjoyed bowling on leagues for many years. What he enjoyed most was caring for his dogs over the years, especially his last dog, Dixie. He also enjoyed gardening and mowing lawn and riding his mower around town, often with his dog riding along. Deano worked at Spring Valley Sales from 1970-1996. Everyone in Spring Valley knew Deano and enjoyed his company. He loved buying treats for residents at Hillside.
Deano is survived by one brother, Arnold Mullenix of Appleton, Wis., along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Spring Valley or the donor’s choice and a special thanks goes to the Ostrander Care & Rehab for Deano’s care over the years.
