Frank Jaszewski, born May 3, 1931, in Winona, Minn., to Sigmund and Modesta Jaszewski, died peacefully on February 1, 2026. Frank grew up in Winona, Minn., and attended Winona Cotter High school, where he played football, baseball and basketball. In 2003 he was inducted into the Winona Cotter Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended Winona State University, where he played football and baseball, and received his degree in teaching and later his master’s degree in World History.
Frank met Marcellita (Marc) Duellman in Winona and they were married on April 23, 1951. They moved to Preston, Minn., in 1957 and raised their three children – Samuel, Laura and Michael. His beloved Marc preceded him in death in 1999.
Frank enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 and served in the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954.
He taught history, health and physical education at Preston High School for over 30 years, as well as coaching football, baseball and spent one year as the wrestling coach. He spent his summers managing the Preston swimming pool. In 1972, his football team made it to the state finals in the first year of the MN State Football Tournament. The baseball field in Preston bears his name, as did the old football field – both of which made him feel immense pride.
During his time teaching, he was a positive role model for generations of students, many of whom he kept in touch with up to the time of his death.
After his retirement, he and Marcellita began wintering in Tucson, Ariz., which he did for 32 years, where he and Sam enjoyed hiking and going to University of Arizona football and basketball games. Several years after the death of his wife, Frank began to winter in both Arizona, with Sam, and in California with his friend, Patty Schafer, and her family. He enjoyed the warm weather, taking walks in Camarillo, and their trip to France.
Frank was tough but fair and was always there when people needed him. He had a great sense of humor, a sharp intellect, and loved to joke with his family and friends. He was a remarkable athlete who enjoyed playing basketball and golf into his 70s and 80s. He was also very proud of his Polish heritage.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sigmund and Modesta Jaszewski, sister Jeanette Wilson, and wife Marcellita.
He is survived by his three children: Samuel Jaszewski (Lupita Jaszewski), Laura Harstad (Mitchell Harstad), Michael Jaszewski (Amber Carroll); and his three grandchildren: Jessica and Andrea Harstad, and Angelica Jaszewski (AJ Kimminau).
Funeral services will be held at St. Columban in Preston, Minn., in May 2026. Time and date pending.

Patricia Scanlan says
Sam, Laura, and Michael– I am so sad to learn about the passing of your dad. He taught me to swim and to love history for which I am forever grateful. Both a great teacher and a generous man, he made my dad proud. And your mom shared coffee with my mother on many afternoons. Thank you for sharing your family with mine. Your dad’s legacy continues in the students he taught, in the athletes he coached, and in the lives he touched. Hugs to all.
