Football: Kingsland Moves to 4-0 With Big Win

October 2, 2023 by Paul Trende

The Kingsland scoring machine was again on display, even in terrible weather. Matt Kolling’s Knights stayed perfect with a week four 57-0 win over neighbor Grand Meadow. Beau Wiersma continued to burn through opponent’s defenses. The senior rushed for 157 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries while catching a 69-yard TD pass. Kaaleem Reiland (9 of 13, 110 yards, 2 TDs passing, 5-55 rushing) also hooked up with Ayden Howard for a 14-yard TD pass. Howard scored three ways, authoring a 55-yard TD run and a 48-yard punt return TD as well. Parker Johnson led the defense with two sacks, three TFL’s, and a team-high nine total tackles. It was a struggle for GM, which was without All-District running back Corbin Ludemann. The Knights out-gained GM 351 to 81. Kingsland’s defense has given up fewer points each week of the season. Second-ranked Spring Grove (4-0, 5-0), the #10 Knights (3-0, 4-0), and #9 L-O (3-0, 4-0) are the South-East’s unbeatens. GM fell to 0-3, 0-4.

Kingsland’s Kaaleem Reiland is surrounded by Grand Meadow defenders (#9 Malachi Young, #7 Zac Gehling, #22 Nathan Fretty, #8 Tyler Reid). But it was usually Knights running free in the game, as Kingsland improved to 3-0 in the South-East, 4-0 overall courtesy of a 57-0 win. The win helped them earn their first state ranking, #10, in over a decade.
