LeRoy-Ostrander football won the 2021 9-man state title behind spectacular dual-threat QB Chase Johnson. But even he never accomplished what his successor did in week two of the 2023 season. Cardinal junior QB Camden Hungerholt lit up Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons both with his legs and his arm. On the ground, he ran 28 times for 283 and three TDs. Through the air, he was 11 of 20 for 205 yards and 5 TDs. Tallying 8 total TDs, Hungerholt led the Cardinals to their second straight 63-point outburst in a South-East contest versus the Knights. The game was not decided until the fourth. The teams went back and forth for three stanzas. L-O never trailed. A Knight kick-off return TD cut the Cardinals lead to 35-28 in the third. But Trevor Carrier’s group then scored 28 unanswered points including a 22-0 fourth quarter. Hungerholt had 50-yard TD run and two TD passes in that span. L-O prevailed 63-28. Ryder Stern (3-54, 3 TDs receiving) and Carter Sweeney (5-75, TD receiving, 50-yard interception return TD) each scored multiple TDs. Talan Lewison also had a TD reception (40 yards). L-O put up 509 yards total offense. After going 2-7 in 2022, the Cardinals are now 1-0 (South-East), 2-0 (overall).
