Football: Familiar Passing Connection Leads #3 FC Past Cotter

October 9, 2023 by Paul Trende

For a third time this year, seniors Chase Christianson and Jayce Kiehne hooked up for multiple TD passes in a game, and for a fifth time this year, #3 in Class A Fillmore Central posted a win. The duo linked for three first half touchdown passes covering 20, 28, and 12 yards respectively to lead FC to a 21-0 halftime lead. Chris Mensink’s group cruised to a 35-0 shut-out win over the Ramblers. In addition to Christianson (11-21, 163, 3 TDs, INT passing) and Kiehne (6-102, 3 TD receiving, 5-36 rushing), Kyle Daniels carried the ground game with a 100-yard effort and FC’s other two scores (20-134, 2 TDs rushing). Defensively, FC swiped four interceptions from Cotter QB Jack Spiten. Kiehne, Luke Hellickson, Josh Haugerud and Anthony Kiehne each had one. The Falcons rolled up 373 yards total offense and 25 first downs to Cotter’s 149 yards and six first downs. It was the second game Christianson has hit Kiehne for three TDs (Blooming Prairie) as the connection has hit paydirt nine times this year. By way of Faribault B.A. beating #7 in A Goodhue 38-34, the #3 Falcons (5-0, 5-0) and Kenyon-Wanamingo (5-0, 5-0) are the only undefeated teams in the Mid-Southeast sub-district. FC does still firmly hold the lead in their ‘East’ sub-division over Lewiston-Altura (2-3, 2-3), R-P (1-4, 1-4), W-K (1-4, 1-4), and Cotter (1-4, 1-4). They have already clinched a share of the sub-division title. The ‘West’ sub-division has K-W (5-0, 5-0) leading B.A. (4-1, 4-1), Goodhue (4-1, 4-1), BP (2-3, 2-3), and Hayfield (0-5, 0-5).
