In their regular season finale, the new #1-ranked team in Class AA used a scoring defense to easily handle neighbor LA Crescent/Hokah. Carl Fruechte’s Warriors had three fumble return touchdowns. In the first quarter, Max Schmitz sacked Lancer quarterback Maverick Moor and forced a fumble that Coby Hammell returned 16-yards for a score. In the second quarter, Bo Knutson sacked Moor and forced a fumble that Schmitz returned 23-yards for a touchdown. Later in the quarter, Chase Hauser picked up a fumble and returned it 16-yards to paydirt. Jacob Klug also had an interception that might have been taken to the house had he and teammate Hammell not inadvertently collided. All told, the Warriors harvested five turnovers with Klug also recovering a fumble. They have now five defensive touchdowns on the year while having given up just six. The Lancers ran for basically nothing and only had a 51-yard pass play and a 19-yard pass play (that was fumbled). The offense also ran for five touchdowns in a 57-0 win. Knutson (5-105, 2 TDs rushing) had a 53-yard TD run to highlight his night. Hauser (4-47 rushing), Oliver Stemper (11-79 rushing), and Grant King (4-7, 59 yards passing) also had TD runs. Kiptyn Meiners added 45 yards on the ground (nine carries). Klug had the longest reception, a 32-yarder. Cabe Kronebusch and Layne Frauenkron joined Knutson and Schmitz with sacks. Sean Wallin added a 39-yard field goal. The Warriors finish the regular season 6-0 in the Southeast-Yellow (sub-district champs) and 8-0 overall. They are Section 1AA’s 1-seed, get a bye, and will host 4-seed Rushford-Peterson (6-2) or five-seed Triton (3-6) in the section semifinals.
