The week two Mid-Southeast contest between Fillmore Central (1-0) and Blooming Prairie (1-0) had some intrigue. The Blossoms are a Class AA drop down that popped R-P 43-8 in week one while the Falcons are the defending sub-district and 1A champs. The electric connection of Chase Christianson to Jayce Kiehne was the story. The duo hooked up for a 73-yard bomb to start the first quarter scoring, a stanza where FC put up 20 unanswered points. But the Falcons needed a second connection of near identical length to stomp the Blossoms flat. BP quarterback Drew Kittelson’s 45-yard TD run early in the fourth trimmed FC’s lead to 34-18. After a Falcon punt, BP got a 30-yard pass play to the FC 38. The Blossoms were mounting momentum. But Greg Kennedy then intercepted Kittelson. On 3rd and 10, Christianson hit Kiehne on a 72-yard TD pass right down the middle. It put FC’s lead at three scores for a third time after halftime. The Falcons prevailed 41-18. Christianson (11 of 19, 339 yards, 5 TDs) and Kiehne (5-237 yards, 3 TDs receiving, 3-28 rushing) were dynamite. Kiehne had two 70-plus and two 40-plus yard receptions (plus a fumble recovery). Kyle Daniels (4-39 receiving) and Kennedy (23 yards) added TD catches. Luke Hellickson had a 40-yard catch (plus an interception). FC’s leading rusher was Cody Serfling on a 41-yard run late in the game. Jacob Mandelko also toted the rock (8-32 rushing) while forcing a fumble. Kittelson (13 of 30, 99 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, passing 17-159, TD rushing) led the Blossoms. His receivers dropped at least five. Cole Wangen (15-65 rushing, 3-18 receiving) helped. FC (2-0, 2-0) is ranked #4 in Class A.
