Courtesy of playing five of their six Southeast-Yellow sub-district games in the first five weeks, a Caledonia 50-16 win over Rochester-Lourdes in week five has already clinched Carl Fruetche’s guys a share of the sub-district title. Coming off a week four win where the offense scored just twice, Caledonia had four offensive touchdowns in the second quarter alone, where they outscored the Eagles 27-10. It was a wild quarter. The halftime score was 30-10 Warriors. Racking up seven offensive touchdowns, 198 yards rushing, a season-high 251 yards passing, and thus over 400 yards of total offense, the Warriors posted a 50-16 win. Grant King (12 of 13, 251 yards, 2 TDs passing) had his best passing game of the season, hitting seven different receivers. He was 10 of 11 for 196 yards and both scores in the first half. Coby Hammell (3-59) and Tyson Ginther (2-36) caught scores. Ginther had both a 60-yard kickoff return to help set up a score, and a 30-yard punt return to set up another. Jacob Klug (3-46 receiving) and Jayven Ross (37-yard reception) also amassed good receiving yardage. Chase Hauser (14-94, 2 TDs rushing) and Bo Knutson (15-92, 3 TDs rushing; 47-yard reception) combined for five rushing scores. Liam Kupietz added a 17-yard field goal, the game’s first points in the first quarter. It was the first game of the year where Caledonia did not have an interception, and it was a rematch of last year’s 1A final. Cooper Allen had two sacks and team-best nine tackles. Caledonia (5-0, 5-0), ranked #2 in Class AA, now leads the South-East Yellow over R-P (3-1, 5-1), Chatfield (2-2, 3-2), D-E (2-2, 3-2), Lourdes (2-2, 2-3), Triton (1-3, 2-3), and St. Charles (0-5, 0-5). The Warriors’ sole “Yellow” sub-district game left is versus Chatfield in week seven.
