Football: #2 Warriors Grab Southeast-White Title

October 30, 2023 by Paul Trende

Caledonia junior receiver Josh Beardmore fights for yardage versus a pair of La Crescent/Hokah defenders in the Warriors’ road season-finale. In a light rain, team Cal downed LCH 44-14, grabbed the first ever “Shield Trophy,” and clinched the Southeast-White crown out-right. The undefeated #2 in AA Warriors (8-0) are Section 1AA’s top seed.

Everybody got in on the fun as  #2 in Class AA Caledonia ended its regular by grabbing the Southeast-White sub-district title via a 44-14 win over neighbor La Crescent/Hokah. The Warriors built a 38-0 halftime lead. Carl Fruechte’s group ran for 272 yards and threw for another 150 in putting up 422 yards of total offense. Four different Warrior rushers, Owen Denstad (7-74, 2 TDs), Owen Staggemeyer (8-66), Jack Schmitz (5-65, TD), and Ethan Stendel (6-43, TD) tallied more than 40 yards on the ground. Nine different Warriors tallied a carry. Stendel (13-21, 150 yards, TD passing) also spread the ball around threw the air, hitting four different receivers for multiple receptions; Josh Beardmore (5-58), Tristan Meyer (2-37, TD), Owen Klug (3-31), and Lewis Doyle (3-24). Doyle added to the Warrior defense’s touchdown tally with a 31-yard fumble recovery for a score. It is their seventh defensive touchdown this year, Doyle’s third. Denstad added a 30-yard field goal to get the special teams in the scoring column too. Caledonia claimed the first ever Cal/LCH ‘Hammer’ trophy. The Warriors (6-0, 8-0) are 1AA’s 1-seed, will get a bye, and then host either 4-seed St. Charles (3-5) or 5-seed Lewiston-Altura (3-5) in the semis.
