Football: #2 Warriors Defensively Deny D-E, Stay Perfect

October 5, 2026 by Paul Trende Leave a Comment

Caledonia senior Jacob Klug is off to the races after intercepting Dover-Eyota quarterback Jace Drillling. Klug’s 43-yard pick six was one of many big defensive plays (including 14 tackles for loss) in the #2-ranked Warriors’ 21-0 win over the Eagles. Photo by Paul Trende

It was not Caledonia’s best offensive game, but the defensive was majorly on task, as the #2 in Class AA Warriors (3-0, 4-0) took down Dover-Eyota (2-1, 2-1) in a week four Southeast-Yellow contest. The Eagles’ big win was topping Chatfield 20-0 in week two. Carl Fruechte’s guys paid notice, holding D-E to just 13 rushing yards, 79 yards of total offense. The Eagles were tackled for loss 14 times. Quarterback Jace Drilling was sacked six times. The Warrior defense also tallied the game’s first score, as Jacob Klug intercepted a Drilling pass and returned it 43-yards to paydirt in the first quarter. Using a short field, the Warriors’ offense posted its first score late in the second quarter. After Chase Hauser partially blocked a punt, giving Caledonia just a 38-yard field, King hit Klug for a 33-yard TD pass with 1:01 left in the half. Sean Wallin’s PAT gave the Warriors a 14-0 lead, which stood at intermission. D-E never made the red zone. And the Warriors got a 43-yard Bo Knutson TD run in the fourth to make it 21-0, the final. Caledonia (4-0, 4-0) stayed atop the sub-district ahead of Chatfield (2-1, 3-1), R-P (2-1, 3-1), Lourdes (2-1, 2-2), and D-E (2-2, 2-2). Klug (43-yard INT return TD, 33-yard TD reception) had two of the Warriors’ three scores. Knutson (15-120, TD rushing) had a majority of Cal’s 179 yards of offense. But then the defense. Cooper Allen had three sacks and five tackles for loss. Charlie Mauss (1), Coby Hammell (1), Max Schmitz (1/2) and Tyson Ginther (1/2) also had sacks. Seven different Warrior defenders had TFLs, a feat. Wallin improved to 14 of 16 on PATs this year. Drilling (7 of 15, 66 yards, INT passing) to Rowan Flaby (4-48 receiving) was D-E’s best offense.
