Four of the five Journal 11 wrestling programs brought their singlets to Harmony for the annual FCLMC Holiday wrestling tourney. The Wolves, Chatfield, LARP, and GMLOS were joined by Zumbrota-Mazeppa plus smaller contingents from Triton, La Crescent/Hokah, W-K, Winona-Winona/Cotter, and Decorah. Z-M came out on top team-wise (247) over the Gophers (237.5), Screamin’ Eagles (159), Bulldogs (137), and Wolves (81). Chatfield got titles from Javier Berg (106), Kail Schott (170), and Grady Schott (182). Berg (3-0) pinned his way to first. K-Schott (#8 at 160, 3-0) won two falls and then a 12-2 major decision in the finals. G-Schott (#1 at 182, 3-0) needed just two pins for his title. Taking second for Chatfield were Gage Bartels (120 > went 3-1), who fell to Z-M’s Jack Krier by 8-2 decision in the finals, and Caden Nolte (285 > went 2-1), who was close to winning his title bout, only to fall by pin to Triton’s Corbin Geisler. All five of their wins were pins. Bartels in #6 at 113. Kaisen Johnson (106 > 3-1), Ryan House (113 > 3-1), Ben Carrier (126 > 2-1), Carson Rowland (138 > 2-1), Lukas Carrier (152 > 3-1), Ethan Ruskell (195 > 3-1), and Dallas Burris (220 > 3-1) all took third. House, L-Carrier, and Ruskell all had three pins. Johnson’s only loss was to teammate Berg. House’s one loss was by 4-1 decision. Burris lost his first match but then won three straight. It was the Gophers first action of the year. LARP had just one champion, Jordan Zibrowski. Via a pin, a 5-3 decision win, and another pin, Zibrowski (8-3) took 126 pounds. Tyler Kreidermacher (113), Tyler Kryzer (182), and Jacob Meyer (220) each took second by going 2-1. Kreidermacher (113) fell by 2-0 decision to Z-M’s Lucas Williams, Kryzer was pinned by Chatfield’s G-Schott, and Meyer fell by 11-7 decision to Z-M’s Cody Anderson in finals matches. Meyer nearly pinned Anderson. Quintin Betthauser (132) and Aaron Prinsen (160) each lost quarterfinal matches but then didn’t lose in wrestlebacks to take third (went 3-1). Prinsen’s wins include 7-5 and 4-1 decisions. Betthauser had three pins. Brock Frisch (285 > went 3-1) also took third. Colin Klug (170) went 4-1 on the day (four pins), but took fifth. GMLOS got titles from Cohen Wiste (138 > went 3-0), Donavon Felten (145 > went 3-0), and Lucca Sween (220 > went 2-0). Wiste (#6 at 138) notched two pins, then an 8-4 decision over Z-M’s Ben Murray for his title. It was his second tourney title of the year (South Winn). Felten’s trek included two tough decision wins, 1-0 over Z-M’s Kaleb Lochner and 7-2 over Winona/WC’s Logan Hennningson. Wiste (11-0) and Felten (8-0) each stayed perfect on the year. Coaches voted Felten (#3 at 160) the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. Sween won his two bouts by pin. Aidan Quintana (132 > went 2-1) and Braxton Wiste (152 > went 2-1) each took second. Quintana fell in the finals to Z-M’s Lucas Schiell by 17-0 tech fall while B-Wiste fell by 17-4 major decision to LC/H’s Joey Schreier. Timmy Hogfeldt (120 > went 2-2) took third. James Jacobsen (126) took fifth, but went 3-1 (lost opening match). Finally, FCLMC didn’t have a champion. Kane Larson (106 > 1-1) made the finals, but fell to Chatfield’s Berg by pin to take second. It was Larson’s first loss (11-1). Orion Sass (170 > went 2-1) took third, falling to Chatfield’s K-Schott in the semifinals. He is 10-2.
