UPDATE: Fatal crash between vehicle and Amish buggy

9/26 12:19 p.m. – More information has been released regarding the fatal crash which occurred in Fillmore County Monday morning between an SUV and an Amish buggy.

According to Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge, the crash occurred shortly before 8:25 Monday morning. The investigation indicates that a southbound 2005 Toyota 4Runner SUV, driven by 35-year-old Sarah Petersen from Spring Valley, Minn., collided with a southbound two wheeled horse-drawn Amish buggy on County Road 1, south of the intersection with County Road 102. The buggy was carrying four juvenile passengers at the time of the crash. Seven-year-old Wilma Miller and 11-year-old Irma Miller were both fatally injured in the crash. Nine-year-old Alan Miller and 13-year-old Rose Miller were both transported to St. Marys Hospital with unknown injuries. All four victims in the crash are siblings and residents of rural Stewartville, Minn. A reconstruction of the crash is being conducted with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol. No arrests have been made at this time; the cause of the crash continues to be investigated by the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Mower County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol. Agencies responding and assisting at the scene were the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, Spring Valley Fire Department, Spring Valley Ambulance, Chatfield Ambulance, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service, Mower County Sheriff’s Office, and Minnesota State Patrol.

According to Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge, a 911 caller reported a crash between a passenger vehicle, and an Amish buggy at 8:25 a.m. this morning on Fillmore County Road 1 near Sumner Center. Two people are confirmed deceased from the crash, and two patients were transported to St. Marys hospital in Rochester with unknown injuries. County Road 1 is closed near Sumner Center at this time. The crash is being investigated by the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and the Mower County Sheriff’s Office.     Why has Peterson not been charged with vehicular humicide.? Was she on her cellphone? Does she have a criminal record? It looks like your reporter missed a few important questions.

      Accidents happen especially on a windy road when you have 55 mph car and 5 mph buggy it’s unfortunate
