Fillmore Central volleyball began the season having lost its two top hitters. The Falcons’ ceiling for the 2018 campaign was unknown. Well, their conference ceiling has been determined. It’s right below the very top. Travis Malley’s group beat their last TRC foe, St. Charles, in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-9). It claimed FC (10-1) second place in the TRC behind league champion W-K (11-0) ahead of Caledonia (9-2) and L-A (8-3). Paige Donlinger (10 kills, 15 digs, 15-15 serving, 3 aces) led the way. Madison Scheevel (5 kills, 33 assists, 9 digs, 16-16 serving), Kandace Sikkink (9 kills), and K.J. Corson (13 digs) helped. Frosh call-up Lauren Mensink (7 kills, 4 aces) was a nice addition. Hadley Yoder and Madison Krage each added 5 kills. FC hit on 71 of 74 serves with 12 aces. The Falcons downed an above-five-hundred Saint squad without Stella Schrüfer. Though finishing ahead of the Warriors in the standings, FC (17-11) is 1A’s 5-seed and will play at 4-seed Caledonia (17-11).
