Falcon Teams Start with Big Wins

Fillmore Central football and volleyball are each defending section champs. Looking for big seasons, each started with big wins.  Falcon volleyball, ranked #1 in Class A, opened by dispatching #6 in Class A Kenyon-Wanamingo 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) in a rematch of last year’s 1A title game. The set with the only real drama was the last, where FC ended on an 8-3 run to break open at 17-17 tie. Senior libero Josie Corson led the way with 19 digs and 3 aces on 17-17 serving. She served four straight points in game three to put FC up 22-17. Norah Nagel (9 kills, 9 digs) and Hannah Vaalemoen (8 kills, 15 assists) also were big. Madi Zwart (8 kills), Braelynn Dierkes (15 assists), Lauren Dahly (6 kills), and Ava Larson (6 digs) helped. On the gridiron, the Falcons went to Medford and posted a 41-7 win. Adrian Rindels, a 6’4” 190-pound junior, caught three passes, all for touchdowns, covering 80 yards, each from Bridon Bahl (4 of 6, 97 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT passing). Jackson Hildebrandt blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown while adding 2 carries for 57 yards. Quinci Kaase (5-87, TD rushing) was the Falcons leading rusher. Grant Daniels (3-24 rushing, 17-yard reception) added 41 yards total offense while Josh Bakken hit senior reserve receiver Treyton Wangen for a 25-yard TD pass. FC had four scoring drives of three plays or less. Medford did not score until the fourth quarter. FC is 0-0 in the Mid-South Green, 1-0 overall.
