Eunice Gail (Scheevel) Thompson, 96 years old, died November 24, 2022, at Spring Valley Living, Spring Vallley, Minn. She was born at home on September 12, 1926, to Adolph and Anna (Groth) Grabau. She graduated from Wykoff Public Schools.
Eunice married Wayne Scheevel and together they owned and operated the Scheevel Upholstery business in Wykoff. They had two children, Linda Jean and Gary Wayne. Wayne died in 1968. Eunice later worked at IBM for 20 years where she took great pride in being selected to travel to other IBM sites to train employees.
In 1973 Eunice married Harlan (Sonny) Thompson. Together they traveled the United States and Canada via Hawkeye Stages, where Sonny was a tour bus driver and Eunice was his right hand assistant. They made lifelong friends throughout their travels and later became snowbirds living in Arizona. Eunice had a talent for growing and arranging flowers and enjoyed competing on a local and state level. She was a member of the Minnesota Gladious Society and competed at the state gladiola show. It was always a “feather in her cap” when she would beat out the professional floral shops with her arrangments! Eunice was also an accomplished painter, both in oil painting as well as dishes. She even learned how to use a kiln to fire the dishes. Of course, painting flowers, especially roses, was always her favorite. Eunice left a beautiful legacy in paintings and dishes for her family.
Eunice sold her home in Wykoff and went to live at the Spring Valley Assisted Living apartments, and later transitioned to the nursing home until her death.
Eunice leaves her son Gary (Jean) Scheevel), son-in-law Robert Rueb, stepdaughter Renee (Tom) Lawson, stepson Randy Thompson, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Raymond (Mildred) Grabau and Butch (Helen) Grabaue.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Wayne and Sonny, daughter Linda Rueb, grandson Robert Rueb, Jr., brothers Eldon, Gerald, Arlow, Elmer, Curtis, Rueben, and Gerhardt, and sister Bernice Scheevel.
Eunice was a member of St. Johns Luthern Church in Wykoff, the Wykoff Lions Club and the Root Rover Artists. Eunice donated her body to Mayo Clinic for medical education and research. A special thank you to the Spring Valley Living facility for their kindness and caring throughout the time Eunice lived there, as well as the St. Croix Hospice team providing comfort during her final days. A memorial service for Eunice will be held at a later date.
