Duane Milford Hungerholt, 90, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
Dewey was born near Highland in Fillmore County on December 4, 1933, the fifth of nine children and Hungerholt. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and then married Velma Rinderknecht of Urbana, Iowa. He worked at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids before moving the young family to Lanesboro. He owned a trucking business, Dewey’s Service Station, sold feed for Standard PreMix Co, farmed and drove school bus for the Lanesboro schools.
He was preceded in death by his wife Velma and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by a sister, Shirley Richmond of Kansas City and brother Danny of Rushford, brother-in-law Earl Rinderknecht of Urbana, Iowa, as well as three sons: Darrell of Burnsville, John (Roxanne) of Lanesboro, and Marty of Lanesboro; and daughter Dee (Jack) Liepa of Burnsville. His pride and joy are his seven grandchildren: Adam, Cady, Cody, Brian, Brett, Ben and Paige; and six adorable great-grandchildren. He loved driving bus to his grandkids’ high school sporting events (and getting into games for free!).
We are grateful that we were able to celebrate his 90th birthday a few weeks ago with family and friends, and would like to call out his special friends Mr. Chen and Evie Larson.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 3-5 p.m. at the Lanesboro American Legion.
