Duane Michener, 92, of Spring Valley, Minn., passed away peacefully Saturday January 6, 2018, at the Spring Valley Care Center in Spring Valley.
Funeral services for Duane will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2017, at Cherry Grove United Methodist Church in Cherry Grove, with Rev. Deanna Woodward officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Duane Carroll Michener was born November 25, 1925, to Gerald and Gula (Nagel) Michener in Forestville Township, Fillmore County. On August 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Arlys Mensink in Cherry Grove. After his marriage to Arlys, he farmed the family farm in Cherry Grove for 66 years. Duane was a hardworking farmer and earned many trophies showing pigs.
He loved to hunt, fish, doing wood working, or anything outdoors. Most of all Duane enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Duane was a lifelong and the oldest, active member in the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church. He also served on the church boards and always kept the snow plowed at the church. He served on the Fillmore County DHIA, Spring Valley Creamery Board, Spring Valley Hospital Board, and the Cherry Grove Community Center.

Duane is survived by his wife of 70 years, Arlys of Spring Valley; children: Mary Lou (Tom) Howard of Spring Valley, Dan Michener of Fountain, Minn., Sue (the late Jeff Kolling) Kolling (Craig Goodsell) of Spring Valley, Gary (Roxy) Michener of Spring Valley, Diane (Steve) Hafner of Spring Valley, and Cindy (Greg) Turgeon of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; 13 grandchildren: Brian (Tracey) Howard, Kristin (Kevin) Beck, Karin (Tyler) Thompson, Sara (Jered Bamlet) Howard, Aaron (Toni) Kolling, Matt (Cheyanne) Kolling, John (Donna) Michener, Robert Michener, Alysa (Steve) Himle, Kelly (Adam) Sorenson, Megan (Brad) Stokke, Adam (Carlee) Turgeon, and Michelle (Zach) Pfeffer; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Gula, sister Arlene Lichty, and son-in-law Jeff Kolling.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cherry Grove United Methodist Church or Cherry Grove Cemetery.
