Duane R. Monson, age 83, of Wykoff, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Chosen Valley Care Center, Chatfield, Minn., after a courageous battle with cancer.
Duane was born in St Peter, Minn., on April 16, 1938, to Raymond and Delia Monson. After high school, Duane joined the Air Force and served from 1957 to 1961, stationed in Roswell, N.M.
After moving back to Minnesota, Duane worked at Crenlo in Rochester, Minn., retiring after 39 years. He and his wife Patricia moved from Stewartville, Minn., to rural Wykoff, where they ran a tax preparation service together. Duane also spent time working for the Wykoff Post Office part-time.
One of Duane’s passions was gardening, the Chatfield growers’ market; baking pies and cookies were Duane’s specialty.
Duane loved spending time with family, who will miss his dry sense of humor, humility, and wit. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife Pat.
Duane is survived by his sister Myrna Hansen of Apple Valley, sons Michel (Vicki) Monson of Rushford, Todd (Dana) Monson of Anderson, S.C., and Lee Monson. Duane had four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Also, very special friend Mary Ferguson of Chatfield, Minn.
Duane was a faithful blood donor for many years and wished for his body to be donated to the Mayo Clinic Bequest program. A memorial will be announced later. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville, Minn.
