Dorothy Eve Hafner, age 95, of Spring Valley, died Sunday July 26, 2020, at Spring Valley Senior Living in Spring Valley, Minn.
A private family Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, Minn., on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, with Fr. Marreddy officiating. Burial will be in the Etna Cemetery in rural Fillmore County; the public is welcome to join the family for the committal service at 11:45 a.m. at the cemetery. Due to COVID-19, social distancing will be followed and masks must be worn.
She was born October 13, 1924, to Joseph and Emma (Valvoda) Ptacek in Granger, Minn., and was united in marriage to Floyd Hafner on March 28, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had been married 62 years before Floyd’s passing on January 8, 2016. Together Floyd and Dorothy loved to dance, travel, and especially enjoyed going out to eat. Dorothy also enjoyed painting and knitting. She was known for being a great cook and enjoyed working as a waitress.
She is survived by four children: Terry Kirwin of Rochester Minn., Mark (Dawn) Kirwin of Hackensack, Minn., and Stephen (Diane) Hafner and Annette (Steve) Meyer both of Spring Valley. Dorothy is also survived by one brother Jim (Sandy) Ptacek of Rochester, Minn.; many grandchildren and many great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, one grandson and one great-granddaughter, one sister, Betty; and five brothers: Ed, Art, Don, Joe, and Francis.
Family requests that memorials be made to St. Ignatius, Etna Cemetery, or Spring Valley Senior Living.
